The RYT 200 works primarily on Self development in terms of the fundamentals of being a Yogi, or if desired a Yoga Instructor. In this program, the orientation is working with ourselves as our first student (and undoubtedly the hardest student you will ever have). This represents the old and authentic way Yogis of the past applied the tools of yoga as inward explorers both gaining new self perspective and then self guiding the expansive changes and awakening.
Our program is a unique, satisfying, and life-affirming journey for anyone who is interested in learning how to use Yoga to learn, grow, and transform. Many students who come into the program do so in a transition period in their lives where they are ready and wanting to do some serious self-reflection. Some students who come into the program have previous Yoga experience and are taking the course in part to be able to teach, but many students take it without any intention to teach outwardly, but rather use the program as a tool for Self-Growth. You don’t need any previous Yoga experience to feel comfortable in this program.
Aware of individual needs in this transformational process, our experienced teachers offer students a wide variety of options to explore, learn and apply traditional and contemporary Yoga methods to awaken the Self. Moreover, all of the teachers in the program, live, teach and apply their yoga in our community. As a result, students benefit from numerous opportunities to interact with their teachers in meaningful and lasting ways that are relevant to their own learning process.
We support an environment of thinking and continuing study; reflection on the subject matter, self reflection, and practice. Our Yogi Teacher Training program creates a strong foundation to transform your practice and more importantly transform your life. If you feel the time is right for you to embark on this inward journey, please let us know in person or by filling out our online application.
Program Details
Program Structure
The 200 hour course runs 6 months, though you can take as long as you need to finish your hours. It’s important to us that students take this course at their own pace, in a way that fits with their schedules, in order to get the most out of it. The 200 program hours consist of:
Weekend Intensives
The heart of the course revolves around “weekend intensives” which meet approximately every third weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 12:45pm to 5:15pm. These courses are only open to students enrolled in the program.
Self-Chosen Workshops
In addition to the required weekend intensives, students earn hours towards the program by choosing from a wide range of workshop topics that they find interesting. Those workshops are held on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4pm.
Studio Classes
Yoga & Meditation classes (from our regular schedule) that the student attends at St. Petersburg Yoga Students will count towards their 200-hour certification as well.
Non-Studio Hours
These are hours that the student spends on their Yoga practice outside of the studio. It includes things like self-study, journaling, home practices, and classes at other studios.

Faculty
The faculty of the St. Petersburg Yoga 200 hour training program is taught by a group of dedicated 500 RYT Yogi’s who have all graduated through this program, and who continue to be ongoing students of the study of transformational Yoga. Each came into Yoga for different reasons, but share in common that they have used their own unique mind/body/life challenges as paths towards Awakening. You can learn more about each of them on our instructors page.
FAQs
Will I have unlimited classes at your studio during the training?
Yes, up to 200 hours. This includes intensives, workshops and general classes. After you complete the first 200 hours, you receive a discount on workshops and classes!
Do you need yoga experience to join the program?
No experience is needed for the 200HR program, just a desire to learn! In fact that beginner’s mind can be an advantage for coming into the program. But for the 500HR Program, a 200HR certification is a requisite.
Is the program appropriate if I have no intention of teaching?
Yes! Many of our students come into the program with no desire to teach, but rather to learn more about how Yoga can help them with their mind/body/life challenges. This is actually a great way to come into the program, and often these students get the most out of it. (they also often end up wanting to teach after falling in love with the practice!)
Can I spread my training over multiple sessions?
Yes. We have students who start one session and finish in the next, if it works better for their schedule. In general we try to be as flexible as we can in working with students unique schedules.
Do I need to finish my hours within the 6-month time frame?
No. Many students take their time to finish their hours if they aren’t in a hurry. There is no need to rush at our Studio as we’ll give you as much time as needed to complete your hours.
Does completing the course give me the certification I need to teach?
Yes! With the successful completion of all the requirements of the program, you will receive your Letter of Certification evidencing your training at the 200-Hour Level. For those who wish to teach, you may then register with the Yoga Alliance at the RYT-200 level (Registered Yoga Teacher 200). This is the standard certificate most studios and gyms require to teach.
